INNOVATION AWARDS FINALISTS ANNOUNCED

Fifteen Australian innovators from both the defence and civil sectors have been shortlisted for the inaugural Indian Ocean Defence & Security (IODS) 2024 Innovation Awards, worth $40,000.

Among them are a company manufacturing a maritime ‘drone’ that can conduct silent surveillance operations at sea for months at a time, a Young Innovator who has developed an low-impact, rapid set-up technology for mobile satellite communications systems, and the builder of an autonomous, software-based control and navigation system for ships.

The finalists, who have so far earned up to 90% of their total marks, will each deliver a three - minute pitch to an audience of potential customers, partners and funding sources at IODS 2024 on Friday 26 July at Perth’s Convention and Exhibition Centre.

A panel of innovation experts will asses the pitches and award the winner of each category at the conclusion of the event.

The Indian Ocean Defence & Security 2024 Innovation Award categories, each worth $10,000 are:

IODS 2024 Innovation Award

IODS 2024 Emerging Technology Award

IODS 2024 Young Innovator Award

IODS 2024 Collaborative Innovation Award

“The IODS 2024 Innovation Awards finalists exemplify Australian ingenuity, highlighting the increasing demand for smart, innovative solutions to emerging operational challenges," said Justin Giddings, Chief Executive of AMDA Foundation Limited, organiser of IODS 2024 and the Innovation Awards program.

"This reflects well on the Australian innovation environment that ensures Australian R&D is being commercialised as products and services which strengthen both our industry and their customers.

"Congratulations to the finalists and we look forward to hearing them pitch their innovations in-person at IODS 2024."
