Marintec, the joint venture between Navantia Australia and UTS, has unveiled its PhD program aimed at developing Australian researchers and growing and the innovation’s side of the Australian defence and maritime industries.
Since its establishment in May 2022, Marintec has been making waves in the maritime industry by spearheading digital innovation projects. With a focus on data analytics, artificial intelligence, machine learning, and automation, Marintec engages with industry partners to develop cutting-edge digital technologies that will transform the maritime industry.
Marintec works closely with Australian and international universities, such as The University of Technology Sydney and the University of A Coruña, to coordinate PhD programs that focus on areas of maritime engineering and digital technologies. Marintec provides Australian research students seeking an industry partner support, creating foundational stability to their projects through mediating between academia and industry to ensure pragmatic research outcomes.
Marintec’s PhD candidates are given the opportunities and benefits of working as Navantia Australia employee while undertaking their research. While they undertake concurrent study and work, both spheres contribute towards their research projects. This provides the stability of professional employment to innovative academic research.
Marintec is also developing a joint doctoral degree and mobility agreement with universities to begin PhDs in Spain and Australia. The output of academic research will then feed into the R&D activities.
